About the position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Network Design Engineer to join our Infrastructure Operations team, focusing on the development and expansion of Amazon Dedicated Cloud regions. As these dedicated cloud regions grow, we are looking for innovative builders who can tackle the challenges of scaling network systems to meet increasing customer demand. In this role, you will be immersed in a dynamic environment where you will drive the stability and sustainability of our next-generation networks. Your contributions will be pivotal in developing automated solutions and scaling our network infrastructure effectively. As a Network Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include supporting the scaling of several data center locations and managing day-to-day capacity requirements. You will collaborate closely with internal customers and external vendors to ensure smooth project execution, as directed by Technical Program Managers. The ideal candidate will be highly autonomous, detail-oriented, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills, along with significant experience in supporting large-scale, enterprise-class networks. You will be expected to implement and troubleshoot network systems while maintaining a robust documentation methodology. In addition to providing top-tier management and support for Amazon's vast network infrastructure, you will be responsible for building or enhancing tools, developing best practices, refining operational procedures, and proactively identifying areas for improvement. This position requires a US Citizen with an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph, as well as the ability to meet other security-related requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Clearly communicate project status and blockers to leadership and project management.
  • Perform device build and cabling validation activities.
  • Manage cabling vendor activities and perform quality assurance activities.
  • Support Network Engineering deployment activities during scheduled change management windows and participate in the migration, basic configuration, and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
  • Complete customer requests via Remedy trouble ticketing system.
  • Troubleshoot networking, routing, and interconnectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low-level application interaction.
  • Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
  • Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and workflow.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles.

Requirements

  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph is required.
  • 3-5+ years of mid-level and/or enterprise experience as a technician or engineer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in supporting large scale, enterprise class networks.
  • Excellent network implementation and troubleshooting skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications including CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIA.
  • BS in Information Systems or Computer Science and/or relevant certifications.
  • Understanding of infrastructure technologies, including Routers and Switches, as well as common networking protocols (BGP, OSPF).
  • Knowledge of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment, such as VFL, power meter, and OTDR.
  • General comprehension of the various components and sub-components of data center infrastructure.
