About the position

As a Long Distance (LD) Transport Engineer/Network Design Engineer III, you will play a crucial role in the design and management of long-distance, ultra-long haul, and OTN mesh network transport systems. Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing network equipment inventory and ensuring the integrity of provisioning databases. This involves engineering projects for the domestic US, which will encompass installations, decommissions, system rolls, and manual updates to rectify data integrity issues that may arise due to outages, NOC moves, or field redlines. It is essential to maintain synchronization between field operations and provisioning databases to ensure seamless service delivery. You will be tasked with creating and activating end-to-end services at the optical layer, specifically within OTN/SONET/SDH frameworks, utilizing the OneControl GUI. Your role will also require you to conduct database cleanups to maintain system integrity and network reliability. Collaboration with peers is vital to ensure optimal delivery and support for business and customer needs. You will handle escalations and troubleshoot issues as they arise, necessitating a strong familiarity with field concepts, practices, and procedures. Staying current with technological advancements in the telecommunications industry is also a key aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee network equipment inventory and design of long distance, ultra-long haul, and OTN mesh network transport.
  • Engineer projects for the domestic US, including installations, decommissions, and system rolls.
  • Perform manual updates to address data integrity issues in provisioning databases.
  • Maintain equipment inventory records and LD transport in provisioning databases.
  • Create and activate end-to-end services at the optical layer (OTN/SONET/SDH) via OneControl GUI.
  • Conduct database cleanup to ensure system and network integrity.
  • Collaborate with peers to ensure OTP and delivery to support business and customer needs.
  • Handle escalations and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Stay current on technological evolutions in the telecommunications industry.

Requirements

  • Experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • Technical knowledge of long distance, ultra-long haul, and OTN mesh networks.
  • Equipment knowledge specific to SONET/SDH, ULH, OTN mesh, and WDM transport.
  • Vendor-specific knowledge of Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu, and varied long haul networks.
  • System knowledge of BGW or Granite (XNG), CoFEE (Canvas), Nautilus, ICON, CCP, Venue, and OneControl.
  • Experience managing complex processes and driving results.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based programs and corporate database systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of engineering specifications and drawings.
  • Knowledge and experience with both equipment inventory and design.
  • Strong working knowledge of legacy network operating systems.
  • Ability to analyze problems autonomously and implement effective solutions.
