About the position

As a Network Development Engineer II at Amazon Data Services, you will play a pivotal role in the design, deployment, and maintenance of the next-generation IP networks that support AWS and its customers. This position is part of the AWS Infrastructure Services team, which is responsible for ensuring the stability and sustainability of AWS's global infrastructure. You will work alongside a diverse team of engineers and specialists, collaborating to deliver high standards of safety and security while optimizing costs for our customers. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and reliability of the networks that power AWS services, including EC2, EBS, and S3. In this role, you will be tasked with performing high-quality network and systems operations, including deployments, scaling, and technology refreshes. You will lead projects focused on network sustaining engineering, implementation, and optimization, ensuring that the networks are robust and capable of supporting significant AWS customers. Your responsibilities will also include troubleshooting network routing and performance issues, operating under pressure during critical events, and collaborating with various teams to ensure smooth rollouts of new designs and products. You will be expected to create and implement changes on the network, work closely with automation teams to define scaling tools, and maintain compliance with network standards and policies. Additionally, you will document processes related to network implementations and deployments, contributing to the knowledge transfer within the team. This position requires a commitment to delivering simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions, and you will be part of a 24x7 on-call rotation to manage network issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, and technology refresh.
  • Create and implement changes on the network.
  • Work closely with automation teams to define scaling tools.
  • Lead network projects in sustaining engineering, deployment, and optimization.
  • Provide critical network support to diagnose and resolve large-scale networking events.
  • Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, and performance issues.
  • Drive and support innovation across the network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Network/Infrastructure teams on engineering and configuration standards.
  • Ensure compliance with network standards and policies.
  • Document processes regarding network implementations and deployments.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with major Internet routing protocols.
  • 4+ years of experience working in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Associate's degree or relevant certifications (CEH, CFR, Cloud+, GICSP, SSCP).

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years of experience with automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
