About the position

As a Network Development Engineer within the Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) Network Operations, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks that support the U.S. Intelligence Community. Your work will involve collaborating with top-tier Network Engineers to deliver efficient, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes while addressing complex technical issues. You will leverage your expertise in network and Unix systems engineering to take ownership of networking projects, focusing on deployment, implementation, scaling, and optimization. In this role, you will partner with the broader Infrastructure organization to establish configuration standards and tools, and work closely with Systems and Software Engineers to facilitate the rapid and smooth rollout of new designs and products. Additionally, you will be responsible for deploying and maintaining networking software tools. The position requires a commitment to work-life balance, as the team supports 24/7 systems in a classified environment, which includes periodic on-call duties and the ability to respond to critical events as needed. Responsibilities

  • Drive the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks for the U.S. Intelligence Community.
  • Collaborate with Network Engineers to deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.
  • Own and transform networking projects related to deployment, implementation, scaling, and optimization.
  • Partner with the Infrastructure organization on configuration standards and tools.
  • Collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers for the rollout of new designs and products.
  • Deploy and sustain networking software tools.
  • Support 24/7 systems in a classified environment, including periodic on-call duties.
  • Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols.
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment.
  • 3+ years of experience in a network-focused hands-on technical role with IP routing protocols/technologies in large scale data center and/or WAN environments.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, and performing mitigation and root cause analysis.
  • 2+ years of Unix/Linux command line experience.
  • Experience with internet routing protocols and concepts: TCP/IP, BGP, MPLS, ISIS, and/or OSPF.
  • Experience with network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and Junos.
  • Experience in automation via Bash/shell scripting and Perl/Python programming.

Nice-to-haves

  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and Network Security architecture.
  • Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working with customers to diagnose problems and work toward resolution.
  • Strong desire to build, multitask, and demonstrate a sense of ownership and urgency.
  • Strong Unix/Linux skills and ability to script in Perl, Python, shell, C or C++.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and DevOps environments.
  • Knowledge of IT best practice frameworks (ITIL, COBIT) and Operational Excellence concepts.
