About the position

The Network Engineer will be responsible for the operation and management of a large-scale Wide Area/Local Area IP Network built on an MPLS backbone. This role involves supporting various service networks, ensuring compliance with standards, and providing technical support to the operations team. The engineer will also be tasked with creating documentation, generating methods of procedure, and auditing network elements for optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage a large Wide Area/Local Area IP Network built on MPLS backbone.
  • Ensure deployment of new hardware complies with Verizon standards and best practices.
  • Create as-built documentation at the end of projects.
  • Generate methods of procedure (MOPs) for implementation by the operations team.
  • Support complex changes as required by the operations team.
  • Provide daily/weekly/monthly network status updates to management and the network team.
  • Audit network elements for alarming, configuration inconsistencies, and optimization.
  • Submit MOPs and change controls to resolve networking issues.
  • Provide 3rd tier technical support to the operations team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline (required).
  • CCNP or JNCIP certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data networking and telecommunications.
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP and hands-on knowledge of Routing and Ethernet Switching.
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience configuring routers, switches, and related network equipment.
  • Experience with Cisco and Juniper routers and switches.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and sub-netting.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
  • Experience with WAN technologies like PPP and MPLS.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Strong understanding of the OSI Interconnect model.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with load balancers (CSS, ACE, F5, A10).
  • Good Visio skills.
  • Technical & Project Implementation presentation skills.
