This position involves designing, supporting, coordinating, controlling, and operating data communication systems or specialized components of a network, including Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs). The role requires planning, configuring, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and tuning network infrastructure, which includes routers, switches, gateways, wireless controllers, and multi-function switches. The successful candidate will maintain data network hardware and systems, investigate and resolve network issues, and provide technical support on data network wired and wireless networks for both internal and external customers. This includes answering technical questions, recommending and implementing approved courses of action, and providing technical leadership for data network problem escalation and resolution. The role also involves installing and maintaining network facilities, including hardware, software, and system data, as well as installing network applications on network servers or voice equipment. The candidate will be responsible for performing data or voice network configurations and configuration changes of various equipment such as routers, switches, intelligent hubs, and wireless controllers. In addition to technical responsibilities, the position requires providing consultation, support, and guidance to organizations and clients, developing and conducting training as needed, and participating in discussions regarding project decisions and project direction at the executive level. The candidate will manage client expectations and balance the needs of the organization and client to ensure satisfaction for all relevant parties. Leadership and guidance will also be provided to less experienced personnel, making this a pivotal role within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, support, coordinate, control, and operate data communication systems or specialized components of a network including LANs and WANs.
  • Plan, configure, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and tune network infrastructure including routers, switches, gateways, and wireless controllers.
  • Maintain data network hardware and systems; investigate and resolve network issues; research, analyze, isolate, and resolve errors.
  • Provide technical support on data network wired and wireless networks for internal and/or external customers; answer technical questions; recommend and implement approved course of action.
  • Provide technical leadership for data network problem escalation and resolution.
  • Install and maintain network facilities, including hardware, software, and system data; install network applications on network servers or voice equipment; maintain, test, research, and resolve problems.
  • Perform data or voice network configurations and configuration changes of various equipment such as routers, switches, intelligent hubs, and wireless controllers.
  • Provide consultation, support, and guidance to organizations and clients; develop and conduct training as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Degree in engineering, computer science, management information systems, or related field preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in data network support.
  • Experience working with network systems, hardware, software, and technical infrastructure.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in time, priority, and task management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
  • Ability to convey a strong presence, professional image, and deal confidently with technical problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cisco switches, routers, and wireless devices.
  • Experience with SD-WAN implementation.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems using analytical and creative problem-solving skills for design, creation, and testing of networks.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to work occasional On Call shifts and some weekend or evening work.
