About the position

The Network Infrastructure Design Engineer role at Meta's Edge & Network Services (ENS) team focuses on developing and delivering network infrastructure solutions at scale, particularly in data centers and globally distributed Points of Presence (POPs). This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to support the expansion of Meta's global Edge/Backbone network, ensuring the design and execution of space, power, cooling, and connectivity infrastructure requirements. The role emphasizes execution, delivery, and continuous improvement in design and construction processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage global space, power, cooling, structured cabling, and other inside plant infrastructure delivery requirements for Meta edge/backbone network deployments.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy and establish team roadmaps and goals aligned with business priorities.
  • Drive future iterations of edge/backbone midpoint site and network infrastructure designs.
  • Accountable for improvements in technical references, process, and training documentation.
  • Initiate and lead strategic initiatives for efficiency, innovation, and standardization in network infrastructure design.
  • Support automation and tooling initiatives for consistency and efficiency in design and construction.
  • Engage in system level facility sizing of utilities, switchgear, UPS/DC power plant, PDUs, mechanical cooling, and LV power distribution.
  • Evaluate colocation providers' facilities and recommend corrective actions to meet Meta standards.
  • Collaborate with design and planning engineers for cage and suite network/compute infrastructure build-outs.
  • Lead weekly syncs with colocation vendors, providing technical support and progress reporting.
  • Manage project timelines, risks, and ensure on-time project completion.
  • Lead site acceptance activities with colocation providers as per acceptance standards.
  • Coordinate multiple projects in parallel and execute work through vendors at scale.
  • Develop optimized layouts of edge/backbone midpoint site floorplans.
  • Deliver Engineering Design Packages for sourcing and capacity planning teams.
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams on space/power delivery and deployment projects.
  • Update internal tooling and data record keeping for build-outs.
  • Coordinate equipment delivery from Meta's inventory to colocation facilities.
  • Align with network planning and investment teams on roadmap and material forecasting needs.
  • Demonstrate proactive communication and a customer-focused mindset in all interactions.
  • Apply lessons learned from projects to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in designing and constructing large scale data center or mission critical infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, execution, and delivery of complex technical projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of reading and analyzing electrical/mechanical single line diagrams.
  • Technical knowledge of regional data center electrical and cooling configurations, IEC, NEMA standards, AC/DC power concepts.
  • Working knowledge of fiber optic components, structured cabling, and interconnect products.
  • Understanding of engineering principles related to infrastructure architecture.
  • Experience with field-based work in POPs, carrier hotels, data centers, or Central Office environments.
  • Experience with communication and directing tasks with carriers and colocation vendors remotely.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Proven planning, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Experience analyzing situations, troubleshooting issues, and solving problems with limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of internet networking technologies and optical transport technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing matrixed technical teams.
  • Experience leading data center or related electrical/mechanical infrastructure new product development initiatives.
  • Proficient in Revit/AutoCAD/Bluebeam/BIM360.
  • Working knowledge of optical theory and transport technologies.
  • Experience with optical network design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Data center design or relevant telecommunications certifications.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in electrical or mechanical disciplines.
  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems and experience with scripting and automation.
