About the position

The Network Engineer I-OSC at QTS is responsible for supporting both internal and customer networking, including physical and virtual environments, as well as firewall management. This role requires a strong understanding of networking technologies and a commitment to customer satisfaction, with a focus on technical problem resolution. The position is part of a 24/7 Operations Service Center, necessitating shift work and flexibility in availability.

Responsibilities

  • Support internal and customer physical and virtual networking and firewall management.
  • Manage assigned tickets to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Deliver customer-focused support through phone calls and ticket-based communications.
  • Troubleshoot network port, HSRP, and OSPF configuration issues.
  • Conduct firewall rule changes and understand prefix and access lists.
  • Read and comprehend traceroutes and monitor alerts on the alert board.
  • Create A, C, and MX records using basic knowledge of DNS.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot VPNs, checking Phase 1 and Phase 2.
  • Triage and escalate tickets according to QTS policy.
  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Administer all network equipment including switches, routers, firewalls, and associated software.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Three or more years of progressive IT engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches.
  • Familiarity with data center networking concepts, including VLANs, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools and protocols (SNMP, NetFlow, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Solid understanding of security and network/distributed computing concepts.
  • General experience with DDOS and traffic mitigation techniques.
  • Working knowledge of networking technologies, concepts, and industry trends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two or more years of experience with a service provider, preferably in a Data Center environment.
  • Experience working in a NOC environment.
  • Related technology certifications (CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA, Network+, Security+, etc.).
  • Familiarity with NSX virtual networking.
  • Familiar with Juniper network devices with ability to navigate Junos.
  • Knowledge of ITIL.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow.
  • Working knowledge of BGP and OSPF.
  • Proficient with IP subnetting.
