The Network Engineer I position is responsible for configuring, enhancing, and operating the enterprise network infrastructure. This role involves utilizing diagnostic tools, automation, and recovery systems through standard or proprietary scripting and utilities. The engineer will be tasked with complex analysis and resolution of escalated problems within the department, ensuring the network operates efficiently and effectively. As part of the essential duties, the Network Engineer I will provide Tier III level support for network issues that arise through the customer support center. This includes being available for 24x7 on-call support for the infrastructure they manage. The engineer will perform problem tracking, diagnosis, root-cause analysis, replication, troubleshooting, and resolution for network issues, responding to incidents or service tickets in a timely manner. Documentation of all relevant end-user interactions and steps taken to resolve incidents is crucial. Frequent contact with end-users is expected, and the engineer will take direction from senior engineers to perform configuration and troubleshooting of installed networking systems. Collaboration with other IT teams is essential to support changes that configure and enable necessary solutions, including security, logging, and monitoring. The engineer will also conduct pre-integration and production tests to ensure high-quality implementations. Communication of project status, dependencies, and requirements to management is a key responsibility. Staying current on changes in networking technology, including L1 transports, software-defined networking, and deployment technologies such as virtual machines and containers, is also part of the role.
