About the position

As a Network Engineer I at Compass Health Network, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the stability and performance of the company's network environment across all locations. Your primary responsibilities will include researching, planning, developing, and configuring both new and existing projects and technologies to enhance the network infrastructure. You will be tasked with the continual maintenance of network hardware and software, ensuring that best practices for configuration and security are followed. Communication with the Senior Network Engineer regarding any issues or projects requiring network downtime will be essential. Additionally, you will provide monitoring and reporting for all aspects of the network infrastructure and performance, ensuring optimal functionality and support for all Compass Health locations. This position is full-time and benefit-eligible, with the flexibility to work from home; however, it is required that the employee resides in Missouri, preferably near Jefferson City or Columbia. You will manage the Compass Health network infrastructure, which includes routers, switches, firewalls, security appliances, and wireless hardware/software. Your role will also involve performing network design and capacity planning, conducting research on network products and services, and interacting with vendors to secure necessary network resources. You will develop and implement policies and procedures for network resource administration and disaster recovery, practice network asset management, and administer end-user accounts and permissions. Monitoring network performance and recommending improvements will also be part of your responsibilities, along with providing guidance to junior team members and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Compass Health network infrastructure, including managed services routers, switches, firewalls, security appliances, and wireless hardware/software
  • Perform network design and capacity planning
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure network products and services
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights
  • Perform system backups and recovery
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports
  • Recommend, schedule and perform network improvements, upgrades and repairs
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School/GED required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Three (3) years equivalent work experience preferred
  • Expert knowledge of various routing/switching protocols
  • High level understanding of configuration and deployment of Cisco/Meraki, HP, Aruba, Velocloud, and Fortinet devices and software
  • Expert knowledge of security standards configuration of network hardware/software
  • High level ability to troubleshoot and problem solve complex networking issues
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives
  • Knowledge of applicable privacy practices and laws
  • Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment preferred
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • A valid driver's license and agency established minimum automobile coverage as well as a good driving record is required

Nice-to-haves
