About the position

The Network Engineer II position at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian involves participating in network planning, architecture design, and engineering. The role focuses on integrating communication architectures, evaluating new products, and providing advanced troubleshooting for network systems. The engineer will be responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining network systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability while providing Level II and III support. This position also includes mentoring new engineers and participating in special projects as assigned by management.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in network planning, network architecture design and engineering.
  • Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations.
  • Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution and assists in the development and documentation of technical standards and interface applications.
  • Monitors protocol compatibility, performs system tuning and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Responsible for designing, installing and troubleshooting network systems (including wireless) to meet the functional objectives of the business.
  • Involved with the configuration and maintenance of physical and logical network components.
  • Performs capacity and resource planning, assessing network risks and contingency planning.
  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of network management software; researching, analyzing and implementing software patches or hardware changes to fix any network deficiencies.
  • Provides Level II and III support.
  • Involved in the evaluation of new products and services.
  • Selects, develops, integrates and implements network management applications for internet components.
  • Maintains all user manuals for network devices.
  • Optimizes the network traffic routes and controls network broadcast storms.
  • Supports the development, creation, and maintenance of current network device configurations, circuit information and operations network diagrams for network infrastructure.
  • Develops process to inventory all data network equipment; performs periodic inventory audits reviews.
  • Provides advanced troubleshooting for applications and systems, determining cause and effect.
  • Provides 24 x 7 on call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members.
  • Understands and applies advanced system/application administration, management and performance tuning techniques.
  • Assists with day-to-day operation support, performance tuning, disaster recovery and patch/release management of network.
  • Trains and mentors newly hired Network Engineers to ensure a smooth transition from learning environment to daily production environment.
  • Participates in meetings and presentations or other designated special projects as assigned by department management.
  • Maintains a comprehensive working knowledge of policies, procedure, and benefits across all product lines.
  • Develops job aides and other tools to assist engineers in improving overall quality of service.
  • Evaluate hardware and software requirements and be able to justify purchase decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Expert understanding/level experience in handling Cisco Network Infrastructure.
  • Expert understanding of switching - VLAN, Voice VLAN, VTP, STP, PoE, Ether channel, HSRP, Routing Protocols.
  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant work experience including comfortably working on the following Cisco platforms: Cisco 6500, 4500, 3850X, 3750X switches, Cisco Nexus switches, 3900 ISR's, Cisco ASA 5500X FW's.
  • Excellent Problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the following Cisco Wireless LAN Products: experience with various Cisco Wireless LAN controllers, like 5508, 5520, 3504, 3850x.
  • Experience with various wireless survey and testing tools, Ehakau Pro with Sidekick, AirMagnet Wireless Survey, Fluke AirCheck.
  • Experience with various wireless management tools, Cisco Prime, create AP within Cisco Prime.
  • Understanding of Wireless authentication Protocol, like WPA/WPA2/WAP3 with TKIP/AES.
  • Knowledge of Cisco ISE, experience to create and modify profiles and rules related to wireless authentication.
