About the position

As a Network Engineer II on our NOC team based in Chantilly, VA, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional technical support and maintaining high-performance network solutions for our customers. This position is integral to ensuring network uptime and providing outstanding service delivery. You will collaborate with a skilled team to handle technical escalations and support various network components, ensuring that our clients receive the best possible service. In this position, you will be responsible for monitoring and responding to alerts on network equipment such as firewalls, routers, switches, WLAN Controllers, WAPs, and FMCs. You will support and troubleshoot these devices, maintaining and upgrading network infrastructure as necessary. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining network performance through monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, and troubleshooting network problems. You will also promote network security by maintaining proper access control and evaluating security policies and rules. Additionally, you will ensure that network device firmware and Cisco IOS images are up to date for all customers, performing upgrades when necessary. You will work with monitoring tools, logs, and management portals to investigate issues with network traffic and performance. Collaboration and communication with other team members will be essential to provide excellent service and ticket resolution. As a mentor to junior engineers, you will assist with call center activities during peak periods, addressing technical inquiries and support tickets, and providing basic triage for end-user or T1 systems issues and requests.

Responsibilities

  • Handle tickets submitted by users and customer points of contact
  • Monitor and respond to alerts on network equipment such as firewalls, routers, switches, WLAN Controllers, WAPs, and FMCs
  • Support and troubleshoot firewalls, routers, switches, wireless, and other components of LAN and WAN networks from a wide variety of vendors
  • Maintain and upgrade/update network infrastructure
  • Maintain network performance through network monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting network problems, and escalating issues to vendors
  • Promote network security by maintaining proper network access control, evaluating security policies/rules, and maintaining documentation
  • Ensure network device firmware and Cisco IOS images including FMC, FTD, ASA, WLC, routers, and switches are up to date for all customers, performing upgrades when necessary
  • Work with monitoring tools, logs, and management portals to investigate issues with network traffic and performance
  • Collaborate and communicate with other team members to provide excellent service and ticket resolution
  • Act as a mentor to junior Red River engineers
  • Assist with call center activities during peak periods, addressing technical inquiries and support tickets
  • Provide basic triage for end-user or T1 systems issues/requests, troubleshooting and escalating as needed

Requirements

  • 3+ years of network engineering experience
  • Basic understanding of routing protocols
  • Basic understanding of wireless LAN technologies
  • Basic understanding of various WAN connectivity designs (Metro-E, MPLS, P2P, SD-WAN)
  • Intermediate understanding of Cisco ASA, Catalyst/Nexus switching, and WLAN
  • Intermediate understanding of IPSEC VPN configurations
  • Firm understanding of TCP/IP and core networking fundamentals mastery
  • Experience troubleshooting/configuring firewalls from multiple common vendors
  • Experience working with multiple environments that utilize a wide variety of network infrastructure
  • Experience working with ServiceNow or a similar ticketing system

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Meraki switching, wireless, and security appliances
  • Experience with multi-vendor routing, switching, WLAN-security, Microsoft Teams, and Cisco UC
  • Experience working at an IT MSP
  • Experience with SD-WAN technologies such as EdgeConnect or VeloCloud
