About the position

Alliant Energy is seeking a motivated Network Engineer II to join our team! This position can be located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or Madison, WI. As a Network Engineer II, you will operate as part of a dedicated team of IT professionals that maintains network and Unified Communications infrastructure. Your role will involve the implementation and support of data, telecommunications, voice, and/or collaboration technologies, as well as mentoring for more junior engineers where possible. You will be expected to have good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks, which are vital for success in this position. In this role, you will resolve low and medium- to-high complexity technical issues brought up through the Information Technology Help Desk and other methods for data, telecommunications, voice, and/or collaboration technologies during and outside of core business hours. You will interact and cooperate with other internal and external support groups to facilitate the resolution of technical issues, improving system availability and meeting Service Level Agreements. Your responsibilities will also include installing, monitoring, repairing, and providing recommendations to improve the performance and efficiency of network, telecommunications, voice, and/or collaboration infrastructure to establish stable and reliable services that support enterprise business needs. You will provide troubleshooting, repair, and end-user support daily, and assist Senior Engineers in providing continual technical expertise in the evaluation, planning, analysis, development, and implementation of data, telecommunications, voice, and/or collaboration technologies. This includes assisting in providing roadmaps, processes, and procedures for both project work and general organizational growth in conjunction with other analysts, engineers, and management. Additionally, you will engage in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and help deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities. Participation in on-call rotations, including outside business hours, is required, and you must be prepared to travel as necessary.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 2 years of related experience.
  • Hardware installation experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience communicating professionally with end users in problem / urgent situations.
  • Basic diagramming and flow chart experience using software such as Microsoft Visio.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology with an emphasis in networks, telecommunications, voice and/or collaboration technologies.
  • Certification Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and/or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
