About the position

The Network Engineer II position at the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (NCAOC) is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and operation of an enterprise-level wide area network (WAN) and associated hardware and software. This role involves diagnosing and resolving complex network issues, directly supporting the networking needs of over 8000 users, and leading technology support for eCourts initiatives. The position emphasizes a healthy work/life balance and offers flexible remote work options.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the installation, maintenance, and operation of an enterprise level WAN.
  • Design and implement wide area networks including network servers, hubs, routers, and other peripheral devices.
  • Operate and maintain wide area networks, track significant problems, monitor performance, and perform upgrades to hardware and software.
  • Install or modify existing installations of networked computer hardware, software, and other components.
  • Participate in long- and short-range technology planning.
  • Implement Proof of Concept technical projects related to IT infrastructure and eCourts support.
  • Use project management methodologies to define concepts, scope, plan, and work priorities.
  • Orchestrate testing and compliance of new technology with existing systems.
  • Coordinate with technical groups for pilot implementation and rollouts of technologies.
  • Lead efforts in malware intrusion detection, quarantine, and resolution.
  • Educate the organization on threats and preventive measures.
  • Identify and resolve potential malicious network activity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related IT field and four years of related work experience; or an Associate degree and six years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert level knowledge of advanced software defined network implementation and troubleshooting in enterprise WAN and LAN environments.
  • Knowledge of leading edge enterprise WAN and LAN networking technologies and architectures.
  • Skills in modern enterprise software-based WAN routing architectures utilizing Cisco vManage SDWAN orchestration.
  • Ability to plan and execute network related OS patches and upgrades to mitigate vulnerabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cisco Unified Communications solutions suite including Call Manager and Webex administration.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols such as BGP, IPsec, and OSPF.
  • Knowledge of security practices to evaluate security risks and mitigation strategies.
