At Alaska Communications, we're committed to putting our team first, always being customer focused, having a can-do attitude, owning our results and always acting with integrity. This is what we hire for and what our team members exhibit each day. The Network Engineer III position is crucial for ensuring the stability, integrity, and optimal performance of the systems that support the Company's products and services. This will be achieved through the completion of design initiatives, capital project creation, records maintenance, and supporting installation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, and optimization of all fiber, copper, and wireless transport networks and associated hardware and software. The role involves planning and scheduling work, communicating effectively, and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors and customers. The Network Engineer will recommend, create, and maintain all documentation related to configuration, mapping, processes, service/circuit records, and asset inventories, including topologies, administration manuals, standard operating procedures, support contacts, policies, procedures, and training plans. Additionally, the engineer will maintain and report accurate documentation on relevant hardware and software life cycles, update asset management records, and provide regular maintenance and refresh activities necessary to fulfill customer service requests. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Network Engineer will work with cross-functional teams throughout the company to ensure seamless transitions of products and services to the end customer. The engineer will also qualify new equipment for use in the network and provide operational training on such equipment to the operational teams within the company. Technical guidance will be provided to technicians for telecommunications facilities construction, turn-up, test, and maintenance. The engineer will assist in engineering design and respond to RFPs or non-basic detailed quote requests, as well as provide pre and post-sales support to sales, marketing, and operations. The position requires ongoing monitoring, analysis, trending, and reporting of current utilization levels, estimating future requirements using trends and thresholds for planning upgrades and enhancements. The Network Engineer will perform risk management on a continual basis to ensure the identification and elimination of risks that can affect system availability, performance, and reliability. Continual monitoring of network security and ensuring best practices are implemented to thwart vulnerabilities of network attacks is also a critical responsibility.
