The Network Engineer III position at Ryder System Inc. involves the planning and implementation of local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and remote access services. This role is critical as it serves as the third level of support for the Ryder IT Technical Service Desk, addressing any end-user or site issues that require assistance beyond the capabilities of the service desk. The engineer will be responsible for identifying hardware or software technical problems and malfunctions related to the network infrastructure, escalating issues to the appropriate carrier when necessary. Additionally, the role includes monitoring and controlling infrastructure performance, focusing on response times, throughput, and overall availability. Essential functions of the position include performing network upgrades and routine hardware configurations, monitoring network performance, and resolving incident tickets. The engineer will participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation, implement network architectures, and administer corporate network services such as DNS, DHCP, and authentication. Comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks is also a key responsibility, ensuring that all configurations and changes are well recorded. Additional responsibilities encompass troubleshooting and diagnosing network problems, configuring and maintaining LAN/WAN equipment, and managing MPLS, VRF, VPN, and Internet network services. The engineer will also assist in preparing proposals and solution presentations, present root cause analyses for severe incidents, and perform daily maintenance and problem resolution within the LAN/WAN environment. The role may also involve other duties as assigned, making it a dynamic position within the IT department.
