About the position

The Network Engineer - III position at The Judge Group Inc. is a long-term contract role based in Bedminster, NJ, with remote work flexibility. The successful candidate will be tasked with the advanced configuration and operating system upgrades of carrier-class networking equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, and Nokia. This role is critical in maintaining and enhancing a complex, multivendor nationwide data network. The engineer will work on virtualization technologies, particularly in the Pacific and North Central Markets, and will be involved in the implementation of strategic technology goals, including the transition from VXLAN to the eNSE platform. This new network architecture leverages virtualization and software-defined networking to transform service delivery while ensuring the company remains an industry leader. The position requires the engineer to work the 3rd shift, which consists of 8-hour workdays from Monday to Friday. Responsibilities include planning, prioritizing, and scheduling maintenance window changes, implementing these changes while adhering to corporate standards, and having hands-on experience with configuring routers, switches, and related network equipment. The engineer will also be responsible for implementing configuration changes for Intelligent Edge Networks, leveraging automation tools, and troubleshooting transport circuits. The role demands a proactive approach to work independently with minimal supervision, meet aggressive deployment timelines, and adapt quickly to new tasks and processes. Additionally, the engineer will perform business-as-usual (BAU) maintenance work, utilize network monitoring tools, and engage in intra and interdepartmental communication to ensure smooth operations. The position requires a solid understanding of various networking technologies and the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to team members and stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Advanced configuration and operating system upgrades of carrier-class Cisco, Juniper, and Nokia equipment.
  • Work on virtualization technologies in the Pacific and North Central Markets.
  • Assist with implementation responsibilities for COINs and collaborate with Implementation and Engineering teams.
  • Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance window changes with various groups.
  • Hands-on experience configuring routers, switches, and related network equipment.
  • Implement configuration changes for Intelligent Edge Networks.
  • Leverage automation tools like Python, NSO, DCNM, VTS, Pronghorn, and Nuage.
  • Turn up new and disconnect older circuits of varying bandwidths.
  • Work remotely with local operation team members to deploy and troubleshoot newly installed routers and switches.
  • Perform BAU maintenance work such as ACL updates and software upgrades on network equipment.
  • Utilize network monitoring tools to ensure equipment is functioning according to company standards.
  • Review MOPs and automated dry-run outputs with the engineering team before scheduled changes.
  • Assist team members during cutovers, migrations, and upgrades through network monitoring tools.
  • Engage in communication to plan, schedule, prioritize, and prepare for maintenance activities.
  • Enter all night changes into the change management database and ensure notifications are approved before activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Layer 1 troubleshooting for copper and fiber cabling.
  • In-depth knowledge of Command Line Interface (CLI) commands for various networking devices.
  • Experience with IP Layer 1-3 for Edge Networks and strong knowledge of MPLS.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization of networks and implementing updates on working devices.
  • Ability to follow and implement detailed engineering design documents.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate work and self through email and phone.
  • Knowledgeable in Layer 1 remote connectivity to network devices via console and Ethernet.
  • Ability to work closely with others and manage assigned workloads.
  • Functional knowledge of TCP/IP (IPv4 and IPv6).
  • Ability to pay close attention to details and be thorough in all aspects of work.

Nice-to-haves

  • CCNA or CCNP certifications.
  • Hands-on experience with Nokia SR-OS devices.
  • Experience with virtualization technology in a corporate environment.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Computing (VMWare, OpenStack, AWS, Azure, or similar).
  • Five or more years of experience working on large, complex data networks.
  • Experience with data networking gear and troubleshooting data networking problems.
  • Good understanding of 3G and 4G call flow.
