In this role, the Network Engineer III will specialize in developing and performing Cybersecurity Engineering and Operations processes and activities to ensure systems and services achieve and maintain adequate levels of compliance and operational security posture throughout all phases of their lifecycle. The position is primarily focused on supporting the Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) IT Support effort, which involves a variety of responsibilities related to network design, implementation, and security management. The Network Engineer III will be responsible for designing, testing, upgrading, and integrating new or existing information networks, including local area networks (LAN), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), Voice over IP (VoIP), intranets, and extranets. This role requires thorough documentation of all aspects of the engineering process, including build and configuration, testing, and deployment of networks. The engineer will coordinate changes such as the implementation of new networks and upgrades to existing networks, working closely with network administrators and stakeholders to ensure smooth transitions and minimal disruptions. In addition to network design and implementation, the Network Engineer III will plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard both new and existing networks. This includes performing network modeling, analysis, and planning, as well as evaluating new and emerging network technologies to make informed recommendations for product selection. The engineer will assist network administrators with complex troubleshooting issues and may coordinate vendor engagements to resolve these issues. The role may also involve providing day-to-day operational or administrative duties for deployed networks in lab or production environments. As a Level III engineer, this position requires independent thinking and the ability to tackle more difficult tasks compared to Level II, with potential supervisory responsibilities for other team members.
