About the position

As a Network Engineer Intermediate at GDIT, you will play a crucial role in supporting the US Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) by ensuring the integrity and availability of network systems. Your responsibilities will include installing, configuring, and maintaining local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and other data communication systems. You will work under the general supervision of a Senior Network Engineer, completing tasks that contribute to the overall mission of the Department of Defense to keep the country safe and secure. In this position, you will analyze user requirements and develop network specifications that align with operational needs. You will guide users in formulating their requirements and conduct feasibility studies to explore alternative approaches. Your technical leadership will be essential in integrating network requirements with design and technology, ensuring that new network plans and systems are seamlessly incorporated into ongoing operations. You will also be responsible for developing network architecture and design documentation, as well as managing the transition and migration of networks. Advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of complex network issues will be a key part of your role, as will communicating with government personnel regarding technical considerations and conflicts. Ultimately, you will ensure the technical integrity of all work performed in the Network Engineering area, making a significant impact on the effectiveness of the agency's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Complete tasks assigned by Senior Network Engineer.
  • Install, configure, and support local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), Agency Internet Network (AIN), Intranet, and Internet.
  • Maintain network hardware and software; monitor network availability to all system users.
  • Provide support to projects involving networks and translate business requirements into telecommunications requirements.
  • Analyze user requirements and develop network requirements specifications.
  • Guide users in formulating requirements and conduct feasibility studies.
  • Analyze network requirements and capacity; lead design and development activities.
  • Provide technical leadership for the integration of network requirements, design, and technology.
  • Incorporate new network plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations.
  • Develop network architecture and design documentation.
  • Guide network development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of network engineering management plans.
  • Design and perform integration of new technologies into local and wide area networks.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of complex network problems.
  • Manage the transition and migration of networks and development of network addressing schemes.
  • Interact with the Government regarding Network Engineering technical considerations and associated problems.
  • Communicate with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree with 7 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience.
  • Assist with research and implementation of enterprise system-wide network solutions to support customer business goals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with network infrastructure and components.
  • Evaluate and monitor health and performance of the network including hardware and management software.
  • Assist with development and execution of test plans and supporting documentation for network configuration upgrades.
