About the position

As a Network Engineer at DXC Technology, you will play a crucial role in supporting a network environment consisting of 600-1000 devices. This remote position allows you to work from anywhere in the United States, providing flexibility while engaging in mission-critical IT services that help our customers modernize operations and drive innovation. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and recommending improvements for network architecture, managing network changes, updates, and repairs, and providing advanced technical support for complex incidents. You will be expected to participate in an on-call rotation, design and implement network solutions, and proactively identify updates to ensure optimal network performance and security. In this role, you will troubleshoot across various network components including LAN/WAN, routing/switching, firewalls, load balancing, and DNS. You will adhere to ITIL processes and participate in relevant meetings, managing incidents and escalations while maintaining accurate configuration records. Your ability to foster strong customer relationships and work collaboratively within a global team will be essential. You will also lead or participate in customer and internal projects, ensuring that the network infrastructure meets or exceeds business and customer requirements. Your major deliverables will include documenting the production network, maintaining an accurate hardware and software inventory, and communicating problems effectively to ensure timely resolutions. You will perform operations support for firewall and security infrastructure, assist with implementing security communications, and collaborate with various teams to triage and resolve major incidents. Your proactive approach to identifying and resolving hardware and software issues will be key to maintaining a stable performance environment for enterprise applications.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot network architecture, identify issues, and recommend enhancements.
  • Handle network change activities, firewall updates, load balancer configuration changes, hardware repairs, and system upgrades.
  • Provide senior-level expertise for complex network incidents.
  • Participate in regular weekly on-call duties.
  • Design, plan, and implement network solutions.
  • Identify and recommend patches and updates to network hardware.
  • Address issues across LAN/WAN, route/switch, firewalls, load balancing, and DNS.
  • Design system configurations, direct installations, and enforce system standards to maximize network performance.
  • Establish and enforce network security policies and monitor access.
  • Participate in and represent the team in relevant meetings.
  • Adhere to ITIL processes and operational standards.
  • Provide support as needed outside regular hours.
  • Resolve single- and cross-technology incidents independently and collaboratively.
  • Identify, manage, and lead escalations through Level 3.
  • Proactively and reactively prevent problems in the network.
  • Review, implement, and verify complex and high-risk changes.
  • Ensure complete and accurate entries in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  • Develop solutions for complex customer needs.
  • Influence internal and vendor product/service offerings.
  • Lead and participate in customer and internal projects, including transformation initiatives.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Work effectively within a virtual, global, and multi-functional team.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of professional experience in network engineering or a related field.
  • Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 8+ years of relevant professional experience without a degree.
  • Experience with Dell and Cisco network switches, including layer 1 through layer 3 configuration/troubleshooting, eBGP routing protocols, and Dell enhanced VRRP operation.
  • Expertise with Palo Alto Firewalls, including Panorama centralized management, troubleshooting flows, and implementing security, NAT, and PBF policies.
  • Proficiency with F5 Load Balancers, including virtualized LTM/GTM on i5800 or similar, configuring virtual servers, and familiarity with F5 APM and basic HTTP authentication.
  • Familiarity with Infoblox DDI, DNS, and DHCP operations, including IP address and DNS assignment management.
  • Experience with NetScout monitoring tools, performing deep dive analysis of application issues, and isolating issues through packet captures.
  • Strong knowledge of network security policies and access management.

  • Experience supporting technical projects related to network equipment moves and upgrades, firmware updates, and architectural design changes.
  • Ability to communicate and present complex issues with assurance and confidence.
  • Demonstrated use of consulting skills, including questioning, listening, idea development, permission and rapport, and influencing.
