About the position

DAS Services is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our team in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, installing, integrating, and maintaining backbone core-area tactical and strategic communications networks. This includes working with portions of the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) and the Global Information Grid (GIG). The role requires gathering mission needs statements, operational requirements Capability Development Documents (ORCDD), and Capability Production Documents (CPD) for the Army's tactical communications systems. The engineer will translate these requirements into technical solutions that are standards-based and cost-efficient. In addition to the design and integration of networks, the Network Engineer will develop network architecture for adjacent, higher and lower units, as well as for allied nations, other government agencies, and commercial service interfaces. The position also involves leading and facilitating technical discussions with both internal and external organizations. The engineer will support technical tasks in the integration of Data/Voice/Video in the Tactical Network, which includes engineering and technical documentation, assistance in the development of technical requirements, specifications, plans, and reports, as well as software/hardware engineering. The role requires providing technical support in Tactical Network labs, developing equipment and network configurations, and supporting technology insertion testing relative to emerging Tactical Network requirements and capabilities. The Network Engineer will also provide technical expertise at field locations as needed, ensuring that all systems are operational and meet the required standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, install, integrate and maintain backbone core-area tactical and strategic communications networks.
  • Gather mission needs statements, operational requirements Capability Development Documents (ORCDD), and Capability Production Documents (CPD) for Army's tactical communications systems.
  • Translate requirements into technical solutions that are standards-based and cost efficient.
  • Develop network architecture for adjacent, higher and lower units, as well as for allied nations, other government agencies and commercial service interfaces.
  • Responsible for the engineering design, development, integration, installation, operation and maintenance of the Tactical Network.
  • Lead and facilitate technical discussions with internal and external organizations.
  • Support technical tasks in the integration of Data/Voice/Video in the Tactical Network.
  • Provide engineering and technical documentation and assistance in the development of technical requirements, specifications, plans and reports.
  • Conduct software/hardware engineering, preparation of independent assessments, systems engineering, and technical expertise at fielding locations.
  • Support test and evaluation, architectural/interoperability support, and quality engineering.
  • Provide technical support in Tactical Network labs and develop equipment and network configurations and products.
  • Support technology insertion testing relative to emerging Tactical Network requirements and capabilities.
  • Provide technical expertise at field locations as needed.

Requirements

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
  • 5+ years of directly traceable experience (10+ Desired)
  • Knowledge of Converged Ethernet Over IP (EOIP) network
  • Knowledge of virtualization and storage technologies from VMware, EMC, NetApp, Microsoft, Dell, HP and others.
  • Expertise in Cisco products (ex. Routers, Switches and Firewalls)
  • An active Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) certification or higher is a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current/future Force tactical and strategic military communications networks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with network management and security protocols.
  • Familiarity with military communications systems and their operational requirements.
