About the position

The Network Engineer, Lead position is critical for ensuring that the Department of Defense (DoD) has a robust and adaptable network infrastructure to support its missions. As a seasoned network engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing networks that meet the current and evolving needs of the DoD. This role requires a combination of technical expertise and strategic planning to craft networks with the right equipment and software. You will leverage your experience in network design and architecture, system interoperability, and various networking protocols to enhance the security, reliability, and availability of mission-critical systems. In this position, you will develop enterprise-wide infrastructure designs and troubleshoot complex network issues. Your responsibilities will include analyzing existing infrastructures and optimizing them for better performance and security. You will apply your knowledge of routing and switching, IP engineering, and multi-protocol label switching to guide a team of technical staff in deploying new capabilities and technologies. Your role will also involve serving as a trusted advisor to clients on critical projects, utilizing your expertise in firewalls, Cisco and Palo Alto hardware, and optical infrastructure networking. The position demands a proactive approach to network engineering, where your technical curiosity and understanding of industry standards will directly impact national security missions. You will be expected to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned with the network's design and implementation strategies. This role is not just about technical skills; it also requires leadership and the ability to mentor junior engineers as they work on various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement network infrastructure to support DoD missions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
  • Analyze current network infrastructures and optimize for security, reliability, and availability.
  • Guide a team in deploying new capabilities and technologies.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on mission-critical projects.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience with network engineering and IT systems design for large enterprises or government agencies.
  • 4+ years of experience leading technical teams in IT solution design and integration.
  • Experience with routing protocols and topologies, including BGP, MPLS, VRF, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience conducting network discovery and documenting system requirements.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure in multi-region environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and multitask under pressure.
  • Secret clearance required.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cloud-native networking in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with firewall design and network security, including intrusion detection and prevention systems.
  • Knowledge of DoD IT and Cloud security policies, including STIGs and DoD Cloud SRG.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and prior publications.
  • Bachelor's degree.
