About the position

As a Principal Network Engineer (P3) at Raytheon Digital Technology, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of classified network infrastructure at our Tucson, AZ location. This position requires an active US Secret Security Clearance and involves working onsite in classified computing areas. Your responsibilities will include the installation, maintenance, support, and monitoring of network infrastructure, with a focus on inter-team communication and clear documentation to facilitate project growth. You will be expected to develop technical expertise in all areas of voice and data networks, including hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as switches, routers, firewalls, and authentication servers. In this role, you will maintain network management software platforms and propose solutions to management to meet communication requirements based on current usage and future needs. You will also be responsible for preparing and ensuring appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions and technical diagrams. Regular monitoring and network analysis will be part of your duties, along with assisting in the coordination of third-party maintenance for network equipment. You will work closely with program engineers to resolve networking problems in tactical environments and assist in enhancing the overall performance of the technical team through mentoring and knowledge sharing. This position requires a willingness to work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. You will also be expected to obtain certifications in Security+ within six months and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) within a year of starting. This role is relocation eligible for candidates who meet company policy criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the smooth operation of classified network infrastructure at Raytheon/RTX locations.
  • Install, maintain, support, and monitor network infrastructure.
  • Focus on inter-team communication and organization of clear documentation of network details.
  • Maintain smooth operation of voice and data networks.
  • Plan, evaluate, coordinate, and perform installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network.
  • Develop technical expertise in all areas of voice and data networks hardware and software interconnection and interfacing.
  • Maintain network management software platforms.
  • Propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements are met based on future needs and current usage.
  • Prepare and ensure appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions and technical diagrams.
  • Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems.
  • Assist with coordination of third-party maintenance for network equipment or with vendors for third-party support.
  • Design network solutions that include selection of hardware and software packages, hierarchical architecture, and geographical limitations.
  • Work with program engineers to resolve networking problems in tactical environments.
  • Assist in the overall performance and capability of the technical team through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.
  • Work outside normal business hours as needed.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree with 5 years' relevant experience in Network Engineering/Technology roles, a master's degree with 3 years' experience, or Associates with 7 years' experience.
  • In lieu of degree, 9 years of relevant experience in IT/Network Engineering will be considered.
  • Experience in configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and/or intrusion detection systems, including software upgrades.
  • Active, In-Scope and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cisco ISE experience with 802.1X and SolarWinds.
  • Experience with current cabling and fiber standards.
  • Experience with access control list, security posture, and vendor best practices.
  • Experience with Visio diagramming and design capabilities.
  • 1-2 years of experience with network management software.
  • Willingness and availability to travel domestically as needed.
  • Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting of encryption devices.
  • Effective customer service skills, including oral and written communications.
  • Experience with platforms such as IP telephony, NTP servers, GemOne, and SolarWinds.
  • Ability to work under time constraints.
  • Experience with classified computing, STIG compliance, and network refreshes.
  • Current DoD Top Secret level security clearance.
