The Network Engineer position at Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) is a critical role responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the overall network infrastructure, including internet connections, associated equipment, and servers. This position is essential for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the network systems that support the educational environment. The Network Engineer will work under the supervision of the Coordinator of Information Technology and will be involved in various technical tasks that require a high level of expertise in network architecture and management. The primary responsibilities include providing engineering and support for complex network architectures, designing, configuring, installing, and maintaining local, wide area, and wireless network infrastructures across all school buildings. The Network Engineer will also provide technical support to IT department staff, troubleshoot network-related technology issues, and support enterprise network applications such as the student information system, Active Directory, electronic mail, and security systems like firewalls and intrusion detection systems. In addition to these duties, the Network Engineer will coordinate with vendors for the installation and maintenance of systems, perform system maintenance and upgrades, and maintain backup systems for critical applications. The role also involves documenting the network in accordance with IT guidelines, responding to service requests, and researching new technologies to enhance the MCPS network infrastructure.
