About the position

As a Senior Network Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton, you will play a pivotal role in designing and maintaining robust network infrastructures that are essential for supporting the nation's defense operations. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our networks are not only efficient but also adaptable to meet evolving mission requirements. You will leverage your extensive experience in network design and architecture, system interoperability, and various networking protocols to craft solutions that enhance security, reliability, and availability for mission-critical systems. In this role, you will be responsible for upgrading and developing enterprise-wide infrastructure, troubleshooting complex network issues, and analyzing existing infrastructures to identify areas for improvement. Your work will involve applying your knowledge of the OSI model, multi-protocol label switching, and virtual routing and forwarding to optimize client operations and support modernization efforts. You will also serve as a trusted advisor to clients, utilizing your technical curiosity and understanding of industry standards to make significant contributions to national security missions. Your responsibilities will include gathering mission needs statements and operational requirements, translating these into technical solutions that are both standards-based and cost-efficient. You will engage in technical discussions with various stakeholders, including internal teams and external organizations, to facilitate the integration of data, voice, and video within tactical networks. Additionally, you will be involved in the engineering design, development, and maintenance of Department of Defense (DoD) Tactical Networks, ensuring that all technical documentation and requirements are meticulously prepared and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain backbone core-area tactical and strategic communications networks.
  • Upgrade and develop enterprise-wide infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
  • Analyze current working infrastructures to increase security, reliability, and availability.
  • Gather mission needs statements and operational requirements for tactical communications systems.
  • Translate requirements into technical solutions that are standards-based and cost-efficient.
  • Develop network architecture for various units and allied nations.
  • Lead and facilitate technical discussions with internal and external organizations.
  • Support technical tasks in the integration of Data, Voice, and Video in the Tactical Network.
  • Prepare engineering and technical documentation, including specifications and plans.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as a Network Engineer.
  • Experience with designing, planning, installing, integrating, and maintaining tactical and strategic communications networks.
  • Experience with gathering mission needs statements and translating them into technical solutions.
  • Experience with developing network architecture for various units and agencies.
  • Experience with engineering design, development, integration, and maintenance of DoD Tactical Networks.
  • Experience with leading technical discussions with organizations.
  • Experience with supporting technical tasks in Tactical Networks.
  • Experience with engineering and technical documentation.
  • Secret clearance required.
  • High School diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with providing technical support in Tactical Network labs.
  • Experience with supporting technology insertion testing for Tactical Network requirements.
  • Experience with Cisco products, including Routers, Switches, and Firewalls.
  • Knowledge of current and future military communications networks.
  • Knowledge of Converged Ethernet Over IP (EOIP) network.
  • Knowledge of virtualization and storage technologies from VMware, EMC, NetApp, Microsoft, Dell, or HP.
  • Ability to develop equipment and network configurations and products.
  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) Certification.
