About the position

As a Network Engineer at TEKsystems, you will play a critical role in ensuring the functionality and security of our network infrastructure. This position requires a solid background in network administration and architecture, with a focus on implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices. You will be responsible for managing complex project tasks, formulating network designs, and evaluating existing network systems to improve efficiency and resiliency. Your expertise in communication protocols, particularly TCP/IP, and routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF will be essential in this role. In your daily activities, you will spend approximately 70% of your time ensuring the network infrastructure operates smoothly, which includes troubleshooting network access requirements and providing support for various ongoing projects. The remaining 30% will involve collaborating with vendors to support future projects in the implementation stage. You will also be tasked with creating accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning purposes, as well as maintaining end-of-life documentation for network devices. Your role will also encompass operational management, where you will implement and administer existing network hardware, perform upgrades, and conduct network, server, and security audits. You will ensure network connectivity between corporate offices, vendor facilities, and cloud environments, while optimizing network traffic routing and switching. Additionally, you will coach and guide less experienced team members, maintain excellent communication with internal and external parties, and participate in rotational on-call schedules. This position requires a proactive approach to network monitoring and a quick response to major network issues, making your ability to work effectively both on-site in Herndon, VA, and remotely crucial. You will also need to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance, which is a requirement for this role.
