About the position

The position is responsible for the engineering, design, and topology of the credit union's multi-layered network and security infrastructure. This includes administering, planning, and managing the configuration, installation, and maintenance of the credit union's local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN), firewall, and content analysis infrastructure and equipment. The role involves monitoring and managing LAN/WAN performance trends and making recommendations for improvements. The individual will participate in day-to-day technical installation, administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of virtual private networks and third-party interfaces. Additionally, the position assists in evaluating and acquiring new infrastructure technologies, equipment, and systems, and manages disaster recovery plans for data, circuits, and firewall configurations. The essential duties include designing, configuring, and testing networking topology, monitoring and administration software, networking hardware, and associated operating systems. The individual will maintain redundant network communications to multiple branch offices, the Co-Location, and the credit union's offsite disaster recovery data center, as well as administer the network load balancer, internet proxy, and various network appliances. The role also requires administering enterprise wireless network appliances, including LTE Cradlepoints for ITMs and offsite locations, and managing Wi-Fi access points. The position involves overseeing multi-layered security controls, troubleshooting internet-related communication issues, and evaluating geo-location and firewall protocols to mitigate potential security concerns. The individual will ensure that the network infrastructure is protected from potential malware and viruses, identifying and recommending areas for security improvements while keeping up to date on ever-changing cyber threats. The position also includes overseeing the Network Administrator and Network Specialist in the research, analysis, evaluation, and assessment required for the purchase and implementation of network hardware and software. The role provides escalation support for network issues, performs diagnostics, testing, and administration tasks on firewalls, routers, and switches, and establishes preventative maintenance schedules. The individual will serve as a lead on network and firewall infrastructure projects, working closely with the Information Security team to install security patches and firmware to ensure proper security measures are in place.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and test networking topology, monitoring and administration software, networking hardware, and associated operating systems.
  • Administer a multi-layered network infrastructure, maintaining redundant network communications to multiple branch offices and disaster recovery data centers.
  • Administer network load balancers, internet proxies, and various network appliances.
  • Manage enterprise wireless network appliances, including LTE Cradlepoints and Wi-Fi access points.
  • Oversee multi-layered security controls, including enterprise firewalls and internet proxy solutions.
  • Troubleshoot internet-related communication issues and evaluate geo-location and firewall protocols.
  • Ensure network infrastructure protection from malware and viruses, recommending security improvements.
  • Oversee the Network Administrator and Network Specialist in hardware and software evaluation and implementation.
  • Provide escalation support for network issues, performing diagnostics and administration tasks on firewalls, routers, and switches.
  • Serve as a lead on network and firewall infrastructure projects, including credit union expansion and new constructions.
  • Work closely with the Information Security team to install security patches and firmware.
  • Monitor and trend network and firewall performance, making recommendations for optimization and improvements.
  • Create implementation procedure requests for new or enhanced network infrastructure services.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve network problems and applications access issues.
  • Perform day-to-day administration, maintenance, and support of network, firewall, and VoIP communications systems.
  • Coordinate technical network and telecommunications infrastructure planning to meet credit union needs.
  • Research, evaluate, and order hardware and software based on specifications.

Requirements

  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field - Required
  • Network+ certification - Required
  • Security+ certification - Preferred
  • 7 Years of responsible experience in the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, upgrade, and performance monitoring of network and firewall infrastructures - Required
  • Knowledge of network architectures, theory, and principles of network and firewall design and integration.
