About the position

The Network Engineer position is a critical role that involves working closely with the Service Engineering, Sales, and Operations teams to deliver best-in-class Ethernet services. The selected candidate will be responsible for selecting technology and equipment platforms that enable these services, ensuring that the network architecture is efficient by collaborating with other engineering teams such as IP engineering and transmission engineering. A significant part of the role includes qualifying equipment in a laboratory environment, which entails developing test requirements, test plans, and qualification reports. In addition to the technical responsibilities, the Network Engineer will support service rollout by developing provisioning and commissioning guidelines. The role also requires participation in various industrial forums, such as the Metro Ethernet Forum and CableLabs, to stay updated on industry standards and practices. The candidate will architect, design, and test Ethernet and IP networks, including Ethernet over Fiber, Ethernet over PON, Ethernet over Coaxial, and MPLS technologies. A strong understanding of Layer 2 network design and standards, including Ethernet WAN technologies and MEF services, is essential. The position demands experience with routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and RIP, as well as implementing resilient networks with redundancy and rapid failover using MPLS and LACP. Security measures against flooding and denial of service attacks, along with traffic management and optimization techniques, are also key components of the role. The Network Engineer will generate and implement Engineering Design Documentation for new network builds or augmentations, perform network maintenance and diagnostics, and provide technical support to cross-organizational teams. Strong interpersonal communication skills are necessary for maintaining positive relationships with vendors and for effective collaboration within the team. The candidate must be able to work well under pressure and meet multiple deadlines while demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
