About the position

Nightwing is seeking a Network Engineer to support the U.S. Government in the Herndon area. The Network Engineer will be responsible for maintaining a strong awareness of technical equipment and applying the Sponsor's project management model for development and installation efforts. This role involves providing build, testing, analysis, deployment, and troubleshooting/lifecycle support for innovative hardware, software, network systems, and applications. The support includes the procurement of required equipment or components to facilitate the build-out of communications systems, uncrating, setup, and build-out of new equipment. The engineer will be involved in hardware and software configuration, customization of packages, system integration, and testing of built packages. Responsibilities also include the preparation of customer system documentation, conducting site surveys prior to installation, creating drawings of rack elevations, and training onsite customer personnel on installed packages. The engineer will ensure compliance with COMSEC policies and procedures and project management requirements while testing, inspecting, and verifying all customer communications systems. The role requires working as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team in support of U.S. Government initiatives, providing technical subject matter expertise in the field of network engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and implementing Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN), advanced knowledge of TCP/IP Networking, and experience with VPN technologies and protocols including IPSEC and SSL. The ability to convey technical designs and results to non-technical audiences and provide briefings to high-level government personnel is essential. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in authoring documents to support customer missions and demonstrate the ability to apply the engineering design process to discover innovative methods to solve technical problems and meet client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong awareness of technical equipment and apply the Sponsor's project management model for development and installation efforts.
  • Provide build, testing, analysis, deployment, and troubleshooting/lifecycle support for hardware/software/network systems and applications.
  • Procure required equipment or components to support the build-out of communications systems.
  • Uncrate, set up, and build out new equipment.
  • Configure and customize hardware and software packages, and perform system integration and testing of built packages.
  • Prepare customer system documentation and conduct site surveys prior to installation.
  • Create drawings of rack elevations and train onsite customer personnel on installed packages.
  • Test, inspect, and verify all customer communications systems ensuring compliance with COMSEC policies and procedures and project management requirements.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team in support of U.S. Government initiatives.
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise in the field of network engineering.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with Customer Enterprise Network.
  • Understanding of Customer security standards and approval process.
  • Familiarity with Type 1 encryption devices utilized by the Customer.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Routing and Switching, and network architecture planning.
  • Ability to configure and manage Cisco ASA appliances.
  • Knowledge of remote administration and secure Virtual Private Networking.
  • Understanding of commercial encryption standards and their application in IP networking.
  • Knowledge of VPN technologies, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, IP Multicasting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) IEEE standards: 802.11 a/b/g/n and their application in enterprise network architecture.
  • Experience building, configuring, supporting, and deploying tactical packages to the field.
  • Knowledge of SIGINT collection equipment and experience with installation.
  • Strong background in Microsoft Systems Engineering and providing support to those systems.
  • Experience in Windows platform operating system and Microsoft applications including Windows 10 and Server 2012/2016 suite.
  • Knowledge of virtualization products with a focus on Hyper-V.
  • Experience providing Tier 3 Support to technical systems.
  • Experience configuring, installing, and maintaining network multi-layer switches, routers, firewalls, workstations, satellite, and secure communications.
  • Experience installing and terminating fiber optics and Ethernet cables.
  • Experience with McAfee product suite.
  • Experience conducting site surveys prior to installation activities.
  • Ability to interpret drawings of rack elevations, system component front and back views, wiring interconnect diagrams, wire lists, and networks.
  • Ability to provide training to onsite personnel on developed and installed packages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of CFSC standards.
  • Knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN) technology.
  • Understanding of Private Branch Exchange telephony, including Avaya/Nortel telephone switches.
  • Ability to navigate and configure Linux operating systems.
  • Understanding of RF transport mediums including cellular, microwave, and satellite communications.
  • Understanding of wired data transport mediums including Category 5e/6 and fiber optics.
  • Understanding of EAP-TLS certificate-based encryption and RADIUS authentication.
  • Experience working in Customer OCONUS environments.
  • Experience supporting an Operations Center.
  • Experience performing site surveys for systems installations, infrastructure, and power requirements.
  • Experience providing technical training for both foreign and domestic audiences.
  • Technical Certifications: MCSE and/or CCIE.
  • Working knowledge of VMWare and ESXi.
  • Previous experience with storage devices including NetApp.
  • Working knowledge of CSFC technologies and methodologies.
