This position is focused on supporting the AT&T Federal law enforcement sector, which involves a variety of services and deliverables primarily centered around Red Hat Linux system administration. The role requires the engineer to have a foundational understanding of networking, as they will be responsible for logging into switches, checking VLAN statuses, and performing necessary updates to maintain the operational environment. The daily tasks are designed to allow the engineer to focus on higher-level projects by offloading routine tasks that do not require extensive planning or engineering. The engineer is expected to execute these tasks with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently. The engineer will interact with various network configurations and must be able to analyze and understand what the configurations are doing. This includes managing VLAN assignments for production, management, and backup, as well as requesting new VLANs and obtaining IP addresses and DNS entries as needed. The role also involves working directly with labs to assess configurations and ensure they meet operational requirements. Key skills for this position include strong attention to detail and organizational skills, as the engineer will often juggle multiple projects across various sites at different stages of their lifecycle. A basic understanding of network infrastructure and familiarity with various server and storage device requirements, including Linux, Windows, VM/ESXI, Avamar, Data Domain, Pure Storage Arrays, and NetApp, is essential. Additionally, effective communication skills are necessary to explain technical details to non-technical audiences.
