About the position

The Network Engineer at Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center plays a crucial role in maintaining and deploying the wired IP network infrastructure for Ardent Health Services. This position is essential for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of network operations across various facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and offices. The Network Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting network issues, resolving trouble tickets, and creating comprehensive network documentation to support the organization's technological needs. In collaboration with the Ardent technology team, the Network Engineer will work closely with IT Architects to design and implement effective network strategies that align with the company's business goals. This includes maintaining and deploying Cisco LAN/WAN networks, implementing network hardware and software according to design standards, and preparing and executing change scripts. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all proposed solutions comply with vendor best practices and contribute to the overall mission of the organization. The position demands a strong technical background, particularly in Cisco routing, switching, and wireless products, as well as experience in configuring and troubleshooting complex WLAN, LAN, and WAN networks. The Network Engineer will also be expected to participate in an on-call rotation schedule and may need to travel as part of their responsibilities. This role is vital for supporting the ongoing growth and excellence of the medical center's services to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and deploy Cisco LAN / WAN networks in Ardent hospitals, clinics, and offices
  • Collaborate with IT Architects in design/implementation strategies
  • Create and maintain network documentation
  • Implement network hardware / software per design standards
  • Prepare and execute change scripts
  • Ensure that proposed solutions comply to vendor best practices and align with business goals

Requirements

  • Associates' degree in Information Systems / Computer Science or equivalent technical training
  • Active CCNA certification required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in Information Systems, preferably in the health care industry
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Cisco routing, switching and wireless products
  • Configuration and troubleshooting experience with complex WLAN, LAN, and WAN networks
  • Troubleshooting of Cisco and Meraki wireless networks
  • Configuration of WAN technologies including MPLS, DMVPN, OSPF and BGP
  • Configuration of SD-WAN technologies including Fortinet and Meraki
  • Configuration of LAN technologies including PVST, Ether-channel/Port Channels, VSS, VSL, Dot1.Q Trunking, and Cisco Catalyst Switch stacks
  • Good communication skills: both oral and written
  • Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Attention to details
  • Ability to think outside the box on complex issues
  • Ability to be a team player and work well with employees at all levels
  • Solid understanding of the OSI Model
  • Solid subnetting skills
  • Basic understanding of Wireshark packet captures
  • Proficient with DNS, DHCP, configuration and troubleshooting
  • Basic understanding of QOS/COS technology and functions
