About the position

The Network Engineer will be responsible for the high-level design, troubleshooting, and management of the University Network, including both IPv4 and IPv6 configurations. This role involves resolving issues related to applications running over the local network and the Internet, as well as maintaining various network infrastructures such as Voice over IP, E-911, wireless systems, firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, and Ethernet technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level design for IPv4 and IPv6 networks.
  • Troubleshoot and manage the University Network.
  • Resolve problems for applications running over the local University network and Internet.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain the Voice over IP infrastructure.
  • Manage E-911 services and wireless networks.
  • Maintain firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, DWDM, and Ethernet technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Four years of experience in design, troubleshooting, and management of medium- or large-sized enterprise TCP/IP networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network problems.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with network performance monitoring and debugging tools.
  • Knowledge of 802.1x, Radius, and/or AML/SSO authentication.
  • Experience with wireless networks and network intrusion detection.
  • Familiarity with IPv6, IP video, VoIP, EIGRP, and BGP.
  • Experience with network and server virtualization.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $95,000 to $130,000.
  • Union position with a minimum hourly rate of $20.
  • Probationary period may be required for current employees.
