About the position

Air and Space Force Solutions, a business unit within BAE Systems, is seeking a Network Engineer/COMSEC Custodian to join our Information Services team at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. This position plays a crucial role in supporting our mission of Strategic Deterrence through continual improvement and innovation. The selected candidate will be responsible for configuring and installing various network devices and services, including routers, switches, firewalls, access control lists (ACLs), virtual private networks (VPN), and quality of service (QoS) settings. The role requires adherence to established configuration and change management policies to ensure that all changes made to the network infrastructure are approved and successful. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Network Engineer will select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the company's security team. This position also involves liaising with vendors and other IT personnel to resolve problems effectively. The candidate will perform professional technical work that necessitates a deep understanding of network engineering principles, theories, concepts, practices, and techniques. Furthermore, the role requires ensuring the execution of network engineering processes throughout the lifecycle and reporting on project status and progress against specific plans. The Network Engineer will also be expected to research emerging trends, techniques, methods, and current best practices to enhance the network infrastructure and security measures.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, ACLs, VPN, QoS)
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
  • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company's security team
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Perform professional technical work that requires in-depth knowledge and diversified application of network engineering principles, theories, concepts, practices, and techniques
  • Ensure execution of network engineering processes across the lifecycle, and report on project status and progress measured against specific plans
  • Research emerging trends, techniques, methods, and current best practices

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of network engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with configuring and installing network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Familiarity with security tools and policies
  • Ability to work within configuration and change management policies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to liaise with vendors and IT personnel
