About the position

We are offering a short term contract employment opportunity for a Network Engineer within the education industry. This role is based in Chicago, Illinois and will be part of a team that oversees network infrastructure including routers and switches. The role will require a hybrid work schedule with a significant amount of field work, and will focus on a Cisco environment. The Network Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the network infrastructure for the university, which includes managing routers, switches, and other related equipment. This position will also involve managing the transition from an old Vaya system to Teams, necessitating experience with voice over systems. Field work will be a significant part of the role, including on-site duties such as activating jacks and maintaining the Cisco environment with a special focus on wireless technology. The engineer will manage over 3000 access points and handle the reconfiguration of cameras, ensuring that all network components are functioning optimally. Knowledge of routing protocols such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Checkpoint, Cisco ASA, Cisco Routers, and Configuration Management is essential. The role requires an understanding of design principles, EIGRP, Firewall Technologies, and Network Engineering. Flexibility with the work schedule is important, as there may be potential for remote work depending on the school year and term time.

Requirements

  • Expertise in Checkpoint firewall technologies
  • Familiarity with Cisco ASA
  • Proficient in managing Cisco Routers
  • Extensive knowledge of Cisco Technologies
  • Experience with Computer Hardware
  • Skilled in Configuration Management
  • Ability to work on design related tasks
  • Familiarity with Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
  • Experience in Firewall Technologies
  • Proven experience in Network Engineering
  • Degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Experience in a university or higher education setting is preferred but not required.
