About the position

Antietam Broadband is seeking a Network Engineer responsible for planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing local and wide area network connections, associated software, and communication links. The role involves troubleshooting network performance issues, analyzing network traffic, and providing strategic planning solutions. This is a full-time position based in Hagerstown, MD, with a hybrid work model that includes both office and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, install, configure, maintain, and optimize local and wide area network connections.
  • Troubleshoot network performance issues and analyze network traffic.
  • Execute manual and/or automated test plans and test cases to validate functionality on network access systems.
  • Configure and maintain Cisco ASR9000s and related switches and routers.
  • Migrate and maintain hosts into segregated, secured network segments with appropriate security policy.
  • Create and maintain documentation such as MOPs, incident reports, change documentation, and network diagrams.
  • Communicate best practices to other networking personnel.
  • Configure and manage Palo Alto Firewalls and security appliances vital to business applications.
  • Design, set up, and configure complex switching and wireless networking that supports open or secured access and voice and IP video applications.
  • Assist in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, and LAG groups.
  • Maintain multi-site network operations and software applications, operating systems, and regular maintenance with both private and public facilities.
  • Manage assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel, and outside vendors to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Supervise the administration of systems and servers related to the network to ensure availability of services to authorized users.
  • Conduct routine network hardware and software audits to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • CCNP route/switch + security, or related advanced certification.
  • A minimum of 8 years hands-on experience working in a highly available network environment.
  • Expert knowledge of networking: TCP/IP, Metro/CarrierE, MPLS, IPSec VPN, Layer 2/3 switching, VLAN, spanning-tree, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), VLANs, VPNs, and Network Security Protocols.
  • Ability to architect, design, and implement scalable, high-performance network solutions that align with business objectives and growth/expansion strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Service Provider experience is a plus.
