About The Position

The Network Engineer at Volunteer State Community College plays a crucial role in supporting the Manager of Network/Telecommunications Infrastructure. This position involves recommending, planning, implementing, maintaining, and monitoring policies, hardware, and configurations for the college's information network and related equipment. The Network Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of the network, which is vital for the college's operations and its ability to provide services to students and staff. In this role, the Network Engineer will implement recommended policies for network use and security, configure and install various network devices and services such as routers, switches, and firewalls. The position also requires performing network maintenance and system upgrades, including applying service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations. Identifying and resolving network issues is a key responsibility, along with maintaining comprehensive documentation of all network resources, including wiring diagrams. The Network Engineer will assist in managing the campus firewall and provide oversight for vendor-related projects concerning network infrastructure. This role also involves researching and developing recommendations for the application and implementation of emerging technologies that can enhance the institution's networks. Collaboration with other technical support personnel and network management staff from non-college networks is essential to ensure seamless operations and support. Additionally, the Network Engineer will install and maintain network equipment and assist the Manager of Network/Telecommunications Infrastructure with telecommunications duties as assigned. The position may require performing other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the college's network operations.
