About the position

The Network Engineer position at Black Box is a part-time, contingent role based in New York, NY, with standard work hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This hourly position is based on experience and skill level, and it is a contract position with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate will have over ten years of experience in network engineering, specifically working with enterprise campus and core devices. A passion for network design, troubleshooting, automation, and researching new technologies is essential, along with a strong understanding of governing principles and best practices in networking. The responsibilities of the Network Engineer include configuring and provisioning new devices from various vendors, monitoring network performance, administering DDI (DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management), responding to incidents, capturing and analyzing packets, and developing training manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The role also involves performing firmware updates, implementing security measures such as device hardening and access control, managing change processes, conducting proof of concept testing, and writing Python scripts to enhance data management. In addition to these tasks, the Network Engineer will be responsible for Red Hat Linux Server administration, configuring open-source software, developing applications in Python, and creating dashboards for data visualization. The position requires managing the planning, engineering, API integration, testing, and deployment of automation, scripting, telemetry, and analytics solutions related to Network and Firewall appliances across both on-premises and cloud infrastructures. Furthermore, the Network Engineer will provide guidance and mentorship to other network engineers, particularly in automation using Python, Ansible, Bash, JINJA, and Git. The role also involves leveraging tools such as Infoblox (NetMRI & DDI), ThousandEyes, LogicMonitor, ServiceNow, and Riverbed to enhance capabilities, visibility, and efficiency in network operations.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and provision new devices from multiple vendors.
  • Monitor network performance and administer DDI (DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management).
  • Respond to incidents and capture/analyze packets.
  • Develop training manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform firmware updates and implement security measures (device hardening, network separation, access control).
  • Manage change processes and conduct proof of concept testing.
  • Write Python scripts to pull and enrich data.
  • Administer Red Hat Linux Servers and configure open-source software.
  • Develop applications in Python and create dashboards for data visualization.
  • Plan, engineer, integrate APIs, test, and deploy automation, scripting, telemetry, and analytics solutions for Network and Firewall appliances.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to network engineers regarding automation tools and practices.

Requirements

  • Over ten years of experience as a Network Engineer working on enterprise campus and core devices.
  • Strong passion for network design, troubleshooting, and automation.
  • Experience with configuring and provisioning devices from multiple vendors.
  • Proficiency in DDI administration and incident response.
  • Ability to capture and analyze packets effectively.
  • Experience in developing training manuals and SOPs.
