About the position

We are looking for a contingent Network Engineer to work with a global team responsible for the support and continuous improvement of our critical networks. In this role, you will collaborate with your teammates to enhance WAN resiliency through dynamic routing protocols, ensuring that our network infrastructure is robust and reliable. Your focus will be on providing preemptive support through improved monitoring practices, which are essential for maintaining seamless connectivity to cloud resources and remote offices. This position is crucial for scaling the business and ensuring that our network can handle the demands of a growing organization. As a Network Engineer at Volt, you will support and improve high-speed network connections between global sites and cloud providers. You will obsessively care for the local area networks that serve as the foundation for Volt's hardware and software development teams. Your responsibilities will include providing reliable, secure, and user-friendly remote access to Volt's network for traveling and offsite employees. You will be dedicated to supporting these functions using advanced network monitoring and alerting systems. In collaboration with your colleagues in the Information Security team, you will ensure that the appropriate level of security is maintained to safeguard the company's intellectual property and to meet audit requirements. This role requires a proactive approach to network management and a commitment to continuous improvement in network performance and security.

Responsibilities

  • Support and improve high-speed network connections between global sites and cloud providers.
  • Care for the local area networks that are the foundation of Volt's hardware and software development teams.
  • Provide reliable, secure, and easy-to-use remote access into Volt's network for traveling and offsite employees.
  • Dedicated support using network monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Collaborate with the Information Security team to ensure appropriate security levels to safeguard company IP and meet audit requirements.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Network Engineer supporting a globally distributed engineering enterprise or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CCNA certification, JNCIA-Junos or equivalent.
  • Deep understanding of technologies such as MPLS, EPL, and IPSec tunnels linking remote sites together.
  • Experience with Cisco UCS Blades, Chassis, Fabric Interconnects, and UCS Central for system management.
  • Understanding of dynamic routing protocols like BGP and OSPF.
  • Experience performing LAN and WAN monitoring utilizing Logic Monitor and Splunk.
  • Experience running firewalls and remote access VPN appliances such as Palo Alto, Pulse, or equivalent.
  • Administration and support of Network Load Balancers including Kemp, F5, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting advanced WiFi deployments with various network infrastructure products (Aruba or equivalent).
  • Experience utilizing scripting (Ansible, Puppet, shell) for automation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Sufficient experience with Linux to understand how Linux systems may respond to different network conditions.
  • Previous experience dealing with phone and video conference systems and their interaction with networks (Skype, Zoom, or equivalent).
  • A basic understanding of networking inside VMWare.
  • Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls.
  • Experience installing and supporting MPLS routers.
