About the position

The Network Engineer will be accountable for providing design, deployment, and day-to-day operation of all physical, virtual, and cloud-native network infrastructure at Rehrig Pacific. This role is crucial in establishing standards for the maintenance and configuration of the network infrastructure to support strategic business goals. The engineer will ensure that the network is ready and able to scale to meet the demands of the business, while also maintaining peak efficiency and meeting or exceeding uptime Service Level Agreements (SLAs). In this position, the engineer will oversee and maintain core network services, which include DHCP, DNS, BGP, SSL VPN, SD-WAN, Zero Trust, SMTP/Message Delivery, and Avaya phone and VOIP systems. They will also be responsible for establishing and testing plans for business continuity and disaster recovery, ensuring the availability of core network functions in accordance with relevant BC/DR plans. The engineer will proactively identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies to improve network architecture efficiency, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools, as well as strategies around Software Defined Networking (SDN), SD-WAN, Cloud PBX, Zero Trust, and micro-segmentation. Additionally, the engineer will lead the deployment or redeployment of AWS VPC networking, enterprise firewalls, switches, routers, and phone systems, managing the maintenance of the deployed infrastructure. They will design for resilience and availability for critical systems, leveraging their platform expertise to harden configurations and establish maintenance protocols to ensure consistent performance. Documentation on data flow, network architecture, and daily operations will be created and maintained to ensure stakeholders have access to relevant information. The engineer will function as an escalation point for technical support and troubleshooting, being on call as a Tier 3 escalation point for user support requests related to network connectivity. Coordination with external vendors for problem resolution will also be part of their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Establish standards and procedures for network infrastructure.
  • Ensure network operates at peak efficiency and meets uptime SLAs.
  • Oversee and maintain core network services including DHCP, DNS, BGP, SSL VPN, SD-WAN, and Zero Trust.
  • Establish and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technology for network efficiency.
  • Lead deployment of AWS VPC networking, firewalls, switches, routers, and phone systems.
  • Design for resilience and availability of critical systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation on data flow and network architecture.
  • Function as an escalation point for technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate support activities with external vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of network engineering or administration experience, with emphasis on Fortinet, VMware, Microsoft, and hybrid cloud environments (AWS and Azure).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Git, Ansible, and Terraform preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in network architecture principles to solve complex business requirements.
  • Subject matter expertise in at least 2 of the following: Network Design and Automation, Network Administration, Zero Trust networking, PKI and Certificate Services, Active Directory Domain/Forest Design and Administration, SD-WAN, Fortinet Certified, CCIE, CCNP, VCP, VCAP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator preferred.
  • Experience working cross-functionally in disparate geographies required.
  • Experience providing technical training to non-technical personnel preferred.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.
