About the position

The Network Design Field Engineer will support multi-year Campus Refresh and Network Transformation Projects in the Baltimore and DC/Silver Spring areas. This role involves designing, implementing, and configuring Cisco network equipment to build a new network dedicated to utility services. The engineer will work closely with a team to consolidate network services and host core utility applications, ensuring the successful deployment of network technologies across various sites.

Responsibilities

  • Support various network projects for Utilities and Campus refresh efforts in the Baltimore Metro areas.
  • Assist with the build-out of a new network dedicated to supporting utility services.
  • Conduct assessments of sites and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) plans.
  • Work with Cisco and Conquest to validate network upgrades and refreshes.
  • Document network configurations and project details extensively.
  • Design and implement network technologies, configure routers and switches, and assist with refresh projects.
  • Provide high-level support for network issues and resolutions.
  • Engineer complete segregation of connectivity between SCADA/real-time network and enterprise network.
  • Design and deploy end-to-end connectivity for new Synchrophaser pilot project.
  • Review existing Smartgrid infrastructure and propose new architecture following industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Expert level experience with network design, implementation, and configuration of Cisco equipment.
  • Experience with Cisco 9K design and implementation, including Cisco R-8300-8500's and Meraki 390.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced routing and switching protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF).
  • Experience with firewall rules and load balancing (F5).
  • Proficiency in using Cisco Works and/or IT GURU for gap analysis.
  • Ability to use Visio for updating topology drawings.
  • Good technical writing and presentation skills.

  • Willingness to travel within Baltimore areas for BGE and PHI areas covering Silver Spring and DC.
  • Flexibility in work hours, including weekends.
  • Hands-on approach to network engineering tasks.
