About the position

The Network Engineer role at a non-profit organization in Los Angeles, California, focuses on managing and securing the agency's network infrastructure. This position is crucial for ensuring high availability, reliability, and security of network connectivity across all remote sites. The Network Engineer will oversee LAN/WAN operations, WiFi systems, and network firewalls, contributing to the overall security and efficiency of the agency's network.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the agency's LAN/WAN network infrastructure across various remote sites
  • Configure and maintain routers and switches to ensure reliable network operations
  • Manage and secure the agency's WiFi systems
  • Secure the infrastructure by managing all network firewalls
  • Implement Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and port security to prevent unauthorized access to the network
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and address all network-related issues
  • Design, implement, and enforce network segmentation and security perimeters
  • Implement network monitoring tools to detect bottlenecks
  • Keep all network hardware up to date by upgrading firmware, applying patches, and following the manufacturer's recommended code
  • Provide after-hours project support and escalation for network issues.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Network Engineer or similar role in the IT industry
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Network Routing protocols
  • Proven experience in working with Layer 3 Switches
  • Familiarity with Network layer or layer 3 protocols
  • Experience in managing Firewall systems
  • Knowledge of VLAN setup and management
  • Expertise in VPN Technologies and VPN - Virtual Private Network
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field is preferred

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP) would be considered a plus.
