About the position

Leidos is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA. This role is pivotal in the design, migration, implementation, enhancement, optimization, and maintenance of LAN, Data Center, and WAN networks. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineers on various technical projects, which may include network consolidation and integration, architecture designs and updates, as well as site renovations and relocations. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong technical foundation in network engineering. In this role, you will provide technical expertise and assist with network integration and consolidation efforts across multiple systems environments. You will be responsible for addressing and resolving technical problems of moderate complexity related to the installation and upgrade of network hardware and systems. This includes interfacing with customers, vendors, and technical staff to analyze business and technical requirements, and engineering/implementing technical solutions from a cradle-to-grave approach. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will lead a team of engineers on projects, ensuring that everyone is properly utilized to deliver a finalized technical solution and implementation. You will also assist and train engineers on new technologies to enhance the organization’s technical expertise. A strong understanding of software automation tools and the ability to incorporate programming languages to automate repetitive tasks is essential. Additionally, you will document engineering standards, support the development of network architecture, and assist in evaluating current and emerging technologies, conducting technical assessments, and making recommendations to senior engineers. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are crucial, as is the ability to effectively complete individual projects and tasks with some oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and assist with network integration and consolidation efforts across multiple systems environments.
  • Address and resolve technical problems of moderate complexity relating to the installation and upgrade of network hardware and systems.

  • Engineer/implement technical solutions from a cradle to grave technical approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of prior relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years of prior relevant experience, or 12 years of relevant career experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Poly is required.
  • Layer 2 and Layer 3 hands-on configuration experience, with emphasis on dynamic routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF.
  • Knowledge configuring GRE and IPSEC Tunnels, MPLS, DMVPN, Pseudowires, VPLS, and Remote Site and Site-to-Site VPNs.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge in network dev-ops utilizing Python, APIs, network automation, Netconf, Restconf, Netmiko, YAML, Jinja2, Ansible.
  • Network Engineering Experience in AWS, Azure, and other Cloud network engineering vendors.
  • Design and implementation of data center technologies using Nexus platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with the implementation and use of network monitoring, fault management, and performance analysis tools such as SYSLOG, SNMP, Solarwinds, ISE, etc.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure and experience with Cisco Routers, Switches, Nex Gen Firewalls, ESXi, VMware.
  • Utilizing Juniper SRX equipment and Palo-Alto Firewalls to engineer boundary protection mechanisms.
  • Experience with network security concepts, best practices, and technologies including SSH, IPSec, TACACS, PKI, firewall policies, DNS, Active Directory, and 802.1x.
  • Engineering solutions with Cisco Call Manager and VTC technologies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
