About the position

The Network Engineer at Cleveland Utilities will act as the principal technical representative for customers, focusing on the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of their carrier network. This role emphasizes ensuring network performance and availability, resolving escalations, and providing customer oversight for network upgrades and capacity planning.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, configuration, and support of customer's Central Office network devices, systems, and related equipment.
  • Responsible for the daily performance and availability of the network with an emphasis on 5x9's availability.
  • Resolve all Tier 1 and Tier 2 escalations in a Carrier Network environment.
  • Develop and follow detailed MOP's/SOP's related to the deployment and maintenance of equipment to ensure interoperability and network availability.
  • Provide customer oversight related to network upgrades, capacity planning and life-cycle management.
  • Acquire and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all customer equipment and software related to their delivery of services.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation related to topology and configuration specifications of the network.
  • Ensure front-line customer satisfaction by dealing professionally and effectively with our customers and their customers.
  • Support the customer's Operations Department with an emphasis on mentoring and elevating the skill set of the customer's technical team.
  • Review and develop best practice policies to promote operational continuous improvements and efficiencies.
  • Assist with procurement of equipment and vendor management.
  • Oversee and manage FTTx network installation and upgrade projects.

Requirements

  • Associates degree (two-year college or technical school) in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related discipline is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college/university is preferred.
  • A valid Class “D” Tennessee Driver's License is required.
  • Three plus years of network support experience in a service/provider carrier environment.
  • Experience configuring virtualized server environments, such as VMware or KVM.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSP engineering and functions.
  • Advanced knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, OSI model Layers 1-4 and various routing and switching protocols.
  • Available to work after hours when needed and perform call duty.
