About the position

The Network Engineer will provide essential network support for an education network serving 20 school districts across three counties. This role involves overseeing daily network operations, managing Cisco networking equipment, and ensuring network reliability and security. The position is primarily on-site with potential for remote work after the new year.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing daily network operations including incident management, ticketing, and issue resolution for school district networks
• Installing, configuring, and managing Cisco switches and related networking equipment
• Performing software code upgrades on switches and managing RMAs
• Monitoring and responding to network alerts using SolarWinds Orion
• Working on network design, maintenance, and optimization to ensure uptime and reliability across multiple school districts
• Providing on-site support across school districts; troubleshooting network issues, and collaborating with local IT staff
• Mentoring and guiding junior network engineers, promoting a culture of integrity, learning, and collaboration
• Supporting the team in the implementation of network automation using scripting tools like Python and fostering a security-first mindset
• Collaborating with the team on emerging technologies such as cloud services and cybersecurity

Requirements

• Proficiency in Cisco routing and switching
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP protocols, and the ability to teach and mentor others in this area
• Experience with network management tools such as SolarWinds Orion
• Knowledge of wireless networking technologies
• Familiarity with network automation and Python scripting
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior team members

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with CCNA/CCNP
• Experience in the K-12 education sector or similar environments
