About the position

The Network Engineer position at Peraton involves being a senior member of a team dedicated to the design, migration, implementation, enhancement, optimization, and maintenance of various network infrastructures including LAN, WAN, Video, Voice, and desktop systems. This role is critical in ensuring the seamless operation of network services and will require collaboration with other engineers on a variety of technical projects. Responsibilities may include network consolidation and integration, architecture design updates, and site renovations or relocations. In this role, the Network Engineer will provide technical expertise and support for network integration and consolidation efforts across multiple systems environments. The engineer will be responsible for addressing and resolving technical problems of moderate complexity related to the installation and upgrade of network hardware and systems. This position requires effective communication with customers, vendors, and other technical staff to analyze business and technical requirements. Additionally, the engineer will document engineering standards and support the development of network architecture and engineering designs. The role also involves evaluating current and emerging technologies, conducting technical assessments, and making recommendations to senior engineers. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are essential, as is the ability to complete individual projects and tasks with some oversight. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of network performance and security.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and assist with network integration and consolidation efforts across multiple systems environments.
  • Address and resolve technical problems of moderate complexity relating to the installation and upgrade of network hardware and systems.
  • Interface with customers, vendors, and other technical staff to analyze business and technical requirements.
  • Document engineering standards and support the development of network architecture and engineering designs and changes.
  • Assist in evaluating current and emerging technologies, conduct technical assessments, and make recommendations to senior engineers.
  • Complete individual projects and tasks with some oversight.

Requirements

  • Requires 8 to 10 years of experience with a BS/BA, 6 to 8 years with an MS/MA, or 3 to 5 years with a PhD.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Poly is required.
  • Layer 2 and Layer 3 hands-on configuration experience, with emphasis on routing protocols BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF.
  • Knowledge of configuring GRE and IPSEC Tunnels.
  • Physically capable of lifting 25lbs.
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring, fault management, and performance analysis tools such as SYSLOG, SNMP, What's Gold, Solarwinds, etc.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure and experience with Cisco routers and switches.
  • Experience with network security concepts, best practices, and technologies including SSH, IPSec, TACACs, firewall policies, and 802.1x.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
