The Network Engineer is a vital role within the Information Technology Services (ITS) department, specifically under the Infrastructure/Unified Communications division. This position is primarily responsible for the installation and maintenance of voice and data network infrastructure, utilizing technologies from Cisco, Aruba, and Avaya. The Network Engineer will work closely with the Unified Communications Architect to ensure that all network devices are implemented and documented effectively. This includes a variety of equipment such as Cisco Routers, SDA Hardware, Cisco Switches, WiFi Controllers, WiFi Access Points, In-Line and Out of Band Appliances, Avaya UC Endpoints, and other necessary network equipment. In addition to installation, the Network Engineer will assist in LAN-related moves, additions, and changes, ensuring that accurate records of all maintenance, inventory, and security measures are maintained in accordance with ITIL processes. Collaboration with other ITS team members is essential to assess and resolve infrastructure challenges, promoting a cohesive working environment. The role also involves responding to trouble calls from campus users, troubleshooting issues via telephone, office visits, or remote monitoring, and actively participating in the university community to promote an image of efficiency and courtesy. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of two years of experience in the installation, administration, and troubleshooting of Cisco Networking systems, along with a strong knowledge of Cisco IOS and other Cisco systems. Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation are crucial, as the Network Engineer will interact with staff and campus users regularly. The position requires a motivated self-starter who is eager to learn new technologies and stay current with industry practices. The role also includes responsibilities for promoting safe and secure working conditions, ensuring the proper utilization of equipment and materials, and reporting any unsafe working conditions to the supervisor. The Network Engineer will be expected to attend seminars and meetings to enhance their knowledge and communication skills, as well as participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings. This position is integral to the ITS department's goals and mission, contributing to the overall success of the university's technology infrastructure.
