About the position

The Network Engineer position at Peraton is a critical role within the FDA Program, focusing on maintaining and monitoring a production network environment. This onsite position requires expertise in network management tools, routing protocols, and security technologies, ensuring optimal performance and security of network infrastructure. The role involves hands-on installation, configuration, and maintenance of network devices, as well as collaboration with engineering teams and vendors to resolve issues and implement improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain a production environment including routers, switches, load balancers, remote VPN, proxies, DNS, DHCP, NTP, and IPAM.
  • Administer network management tools for configuration, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and management of system baselines.
  • Plan and execute Network/Security changes while ensuring performance and security are maintained.
  • Install, configure, service, repair, and maintain hardware and software for network services, storage, and network devices.
  • Implement required hardware upgrades and repair inoperative devices to maintain mission capability.
  • Install, terminate, reroute, and test copper and fiber optic cabling associated with offsite locations.
  • Coordinate material and tool supply requirements for cable and equipment rack installation projects.
  • Complete all required installation documentation and be knowledgeable in network cable installation techniques and labeling schemes.
  • Maintain network communication closets and equipment racks, including cabling and elevation drawings.
  • Define cable plant expansion paths and routing of cable according to client standards.
  • Make recommendations to engineering for improvements.
  • Work with vendors to resolve issues and perform platform upgrades.
  • Provide escalation support as required and certify solutions prior to deployment in production environments.
  • Collaborate with engineering to understand changes and provide input as required.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience with a BS/BA or 6 years without a degree.
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting an enterprise network environment.
  • Experience in installing, cabling, and configuring network equipment.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MP-BGP, IS-IS).
  • Familiarity with MPLS, Layer2 VPN, Layer3 VPN.
  • Understanding of security practices including audits, planning, design, implementation, testing, and management.
  • Experience with LAN/WAN/MAN internetworking technology.
  • Ability to review and implement policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of networking and application protocols.
  • Experience with network monitoring via SNMP, NetFlow.
  • Experience with installation, configuration, integration, and management of routers, switches, load balancers, proxies, etc.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to work onsite 5 days a week.
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain the required agency clearance.
