About the position

The Network Engineer position at Boulder County is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the county's enterprise data and voice networks. This role involves addressing complex technical challenges, managing network documentation, and training IT staff. The engineer will also contribute to the lifecycle management and design of the network, ensuring optimal performance and capacity planning.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate Boulder County's enterprise data and voice networks.
  • Diagnose and resolve significant network issues.
  • Design and plan new network systems initiatives with guidance from IT management.
  • Prepare specialized documentation for complex network systems.
  • Interface with County departments for network upgrades and implementations.
  • Manage all facets of assigned network systems, including maintenance and upgrades.
  • Assist in budget planning for future network systems and software tools.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of combined education and experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with firewalls, DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, and Active Directory.
  • Knowledge of load balancers, proxies, and web application firewalls.
  • Experience with phone systems and wireless networking.
  • Familiarity with routers, switches, and cloud network infrastructure.
