About the position

ECS is seeking a qualified Network Engineer (Junior) to support transformative science and technology solutions for the Department of Energy. This position is contingent upon contract award and is based in our Pittsburgh, PA office. The candidate will be part of a dynamic team responsible for developing, maintaining, creating, documenting, and installing network and enclave infrastructure that supports a broad range of AI/ML datasets, research objectives, applications, and programming requirements. This role demands innovative solutions to network, hardware, and software problems, making it a high-energy position that requires strong problem-solving skills. The responsibilities of the Network Engineer (Junior) include performing software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages. The candidate will schedule these installations and upgrades, ensuring they are maintained in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Additionally, the candidate will monitor and tune the system to achieve optimum performance levels, perform switch and router configurations, and assist with data center management. The role also involves managing server access for multiple, simultaneous external vendors, including government, academia, and industry. The ideal candidate will have experience with data storage, standards, and structuring of large databases, focusing on database physical structure, functional capabilities, efficiency, security, backup, and recovery specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, create, document, and install network and enclave infrastructure.
  • Perform software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
  • Schedule installations and upgrades in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and tune the system to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Perform switch and router configurations.
  • Assist with data center management.
  • Manage server access for multiple, simultaneous external vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in networking, computer science, or a related field.
  • OR Associate's Degree in networking, computer science, or a related field AND two years of related work experience.
  • OR Four years of related work experience.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or DOE Q clearance throughout the life of the contract.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must currently live in Pittsburgh, PA or willing to relocate.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active Top Secret or DOE Q Clearance with the ability to maintain clearance throughout the life of the contract.
  • Two or more years experience supporting US Government customers.
  • Project Management Professional certification.
  • Experience supporting complex government and programs of a research and development nature.
  • Experience with a Customer Services Management Tool.
  • Mastery of Cisco Meraki wireless network infrastructure design, hardware installation, and software/firmware administration.
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Degree.
  • IT Certifications (A+, Security +, Network+, CCNA)
