About the position

The Network Engineer position involves deploying, scaling, and automating one of the world's largest and most complex networks. The role is critical in maintaining high quality and reliability for services while innovating automation processes. The engineer will work on network infrastructure that supports various Amazon services and will be responsible for ensuring that network standards are met and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy network infrastructure across all network fabrics supporting Amazon Retail Service, Kindle, Payments, and multiple AWS services.
  • Deploy, scale, and automate the network across multiple global datacenters, including existing footprints and greenfield locations.
  • Drive scaling of current network designs to meet customer demand.
  • Create simple, repetitive deployment processes to increase velocity and quality.
  • Collaborate with internal customers on designs/solutions, bringing them from concept to production.
  • Create and update network standards, ensuring deployment to these standards.
  • Implement changes on the network.
  • Work closely with automation teams to define tools for scaling at unprecedented volume.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of industry experience in a similar environment.
  • Excellent IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in application and troubleshooting of IP protocols.
  • Excellent TCP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in application and troubleshooting of TCP.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with major internet routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with major router platforms, specifically Cisco 37xx, 49xx, 65xx, 73xx, 76xx, Nexus 7K and Juniper MX/EX platforms.
  • Excellent network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
  • Significant past experience with protocols & technologies such as DWDM, T1/DS1, DS3, SONET, VLANs/STP, IPv4 & IPv6, HSRP/GLBP, PIMv2, IGMP, LDP, TACACS, IPSEC & VPNs, netflow, DNS, HTTP.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong Unix skills and the ability to script in Perl, Python, shell, C or C++.
